Fireflies or glowworms are amongst the most beautiful creations on Earth. The sight of a firefly generally creates a feeling of happiness and joy amongst the onlookers. This is mainly due to the bright luminescent light they emit which makes their body glow in the darkness and creates a sense of hope. With just one or two fireflies brining on such a positive effect, most people can only imagine the ambience that witnessing thousands of these insects together can create. The good news is that this phenomenon can be practically experienced by opting for a camping trip at Bhandardara during the pre-monsoon season.
This is the time when the fireflies mate and in order to attract their mating partner, these small insects converge in hoards in the wilderness giving rise to a picturesque sight. People witnessing the fireflies festival at Bhandardara often compare the experience with the feeling of watching the stars descend to the earth and illuminate their surroundings with a beautiful warm glow. It is a completely enthralling experience that gets etched in their minds like nothing else and leaves them feeling totally awed and amazed.
The breathtaking sight can be enjoyed as a part of the exclusive camping trip along the banks of the Bhandardara Lake. The festival here is truly exclusive because unlike at other destinations which offer similar treats, the fireflies descend on the surface of the lake rather than the trees and vegetation surrounding it. This enhances the overall view as the illumination is doubled due to its reflection on the smooth lake waters. As the waters dazzle with a blue green tinge, the onlookers are left speechless by the astounding view.
Day 1 : Depart from Dadar by 11:00 am & start our journey towards the scenic Bhandardara. Enroute pick up at Thane and halt for lunch near Shahapur (on your own). Enjoy the journey with beautiful nature-scapes, gupshup and songs during the journey. Reach Campsite by 05:00 pm. On arrival refresh & set yourself free ! As it gets darker and darker, experience the magnificent phenomena of fireflies lighting display near the campsite. We might come across a number of places during this trail where we can observe this unique phenomenon of Fireflies Synchronization. Late evening return back for dinner. Celebrate the night with fireflies, ghost stories and more. Let that night have no end…Let your travel stories go on and on…meanwhile, for those who are very sleepy, let the night take charge of you. Off to your tents for sweet dreams. Day ends.
Day 2 : Wake up to witness the refreshing view of Bhandardara Lake from our campsite. It’s a small walk of 10-15 minutes to reach the lakeside, one can enjoy early morning walk to the lake. Freshen up and enjoy the beautiful view. Have good breakfast and explore the area near water. Go get some water splashes on your face or click a cool selfie with the beautiful lake in background.
Get back to campsite by 9:30 am and start wrapping up the tents and pack up your bags. Time for a memorable group photo and around 11 am we will start the return journey towards Mumbai in our private vehicle. En route halt for lunch (on your own). Reach Mumbai by 05:00 pm with beautiful memories.
Lakeside Camping At Bhandardara
*Note :
1. There might be alteration in the itinerary as per the situation.
2. Its firelies camping, so the campsite will be not be near the lakeside but near the trees where we expect good activity of fireflies.
3. This itinerary includes a small walk at the night for watching fireflies, so be prepared accordingly.
4. Its a nature dependent activity and can get affected by rains, but this is the only season when we get to see it. So come prepared and enjoy the nature.
