This is a beautiful trek through the Govind National Park, which is famous for its wild flowers especially orchids. This area has some of the most beautiful forests. It was made popular by Jack Gibson, a teacher at the Doon school in the late 1940's.The surrounding peaks and glaciers in the Banderpoonch Range are a mountaineer's delight. The Har-ki-dun valley is famous for its flowers and meadows. The path follows the tons river from Netwar village up through the scenic villages of Gangad, Seema and Osla. Har-ki-dun has many camping places and also a forest guest house. A rest day is ideal to explore the nearby Jamdar glacier or make a short excursion to Ruinsara Lake.
ITINERARY
Day 01: DEHRADOON TO GIANGAD (210kms) - 8 hrs drive
We start early from Dehradun and reach Sankri village by evening. We proceed a few more kilometers to reach Giangad camping grounds. We spent the night in camps. The final 22kms of the drive are through the Govind national park and is a very beautiful but bumpy ride.
Day 02: GIANGAD TO TALUKA/DAATMIR (2200m) - 12km (5hrs)
Post breakfast we start from GIANGAD to Taluka. It is a lovely walk along the true left of the river, passing through forests, apple orchards and fields. There are many small tea shops on the way. We reach our campsite for the day near the village of TALUKA or up near the village of DATMIR. Overnight in tents.
Day 03: TALUKA/DAATMIR TO SEEMA/OSLA - 11kms (5hrs)
Post breakfast we start the day towards the village of SEEMA. The tons river is always on our left and it's a delightful walk beside it. At some places we have to cross over small streams which merge into the tons river. The village of Seema has a few small dhabas and a GMVN hotel. However the camping sites are better at OSLA, across the river, on the way to Har-ki-dun. Overnight in tents.
Day 04: SEEMA/OSLA TO HAR-KI-DUN (3510m) - 12 km
We begin from our overnight camping site and cross the tons river from the stone bridge near Seema. The trail now rises higher and offers some beautiful views of the Ruinsara valley and the peaks in the Banderpoonch range. The trail ascends through the fields and climbs high above the confluence of the tons and Ruinsara gad. The camp is at the meeting point of the two valleys from Jamdar glacier and the views are excellent. In summer the route can get a bit busy.Overnight in tents.
Day 05: HAR-KI-DUN EXPLORE AND BACK TO OSLA - 12 kms
We start the day with breakfast and spend some time to explore the nearby area. The campsite offers beautiful views of Jamdar glacier, Hata peak and the Swargarohini peak. According to Hindu mythology this is also the gateway to heaven. We return back to campsite and head back to Osla village. Overnight in tents.
Day 06: OSLA TO GIANGAD - 23kms
