Overview
Kedar Tal is a high altitude trek from Gangotri. Situated about 17km away from Gangotri and at an altitude of 4912m above sea level, this trek is both physically and mentally challenging and is definitely not meant for beginners. The destination offers stunning views of the Jogin massif, Thaleysagar, Bhirgupant& Manda. The 17km trek is spread over 5 days owing to its altitude and trail.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1 : Dehradun--Gangotri - Road (256 Km)
Day 2 : Gangotri acclimatization Day Visit Surya Kund and Pandav Gufa
Day 3 : Gangotri--Bhojkharak - Trek 5-6 hrs
Day 4 : Bhojkharak –Kedarkharak - Trek ( 4hrs )
Day 5 : Kedarkharak to Kedartal - Trek (4-5 hrs)
Day 6 : Kedartal -Bhojkharak - Trek (4-5 hrs)
Day 7 : BhojKharak--Gangotri - Trek (6-7 hrs)
Day 8 : Gangotri-- Dehradun - Road (256 Km)
Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Dehradun—Gangotri (256km, 10-12 hrs) : We board cabs from the holy town of Dehradun early in the morning and move towards the holy town of Gangotri (1000 feet) the roadhead for this trek, the journey takes around 10-12 hours, Meal plan: Welcome drink and dinner, Overnight stay in Hotel
Day 02 : Acclimatization Day : We spend the day for acclimatization, we will visit and take a tour of Gangotri. We will visit the Pandav Gufa (cave) which was resting place of the Pandavas of the Mahabharata according to the legends. We will also visit the Surya Kund a famous hot water spring. Day 03:Gangotri—Bhojkharak (5-6 hrs) : We wake up early today and after breakfast, we embark on our trek to BhojKharak. The trek to BhojKharak is a steep ascent right from the start. After an hour's climb we traverse the Kedar gorge to reach BhojKharak. The entire trek is along the KedarGanga , through fir (cedus ) and Bhoj (birch) trees. The bark of birch was used as paper for writing ancient manuscripts in India. Today, we'll set our camps here.
Day 04: Bhojkharakto Kedarkharak (4-5hrs) : Today we leave the tree line and trek through a long meadow with the Bhrigupanth peak in the backdrop. We arrive at KedarKharak and camp near a gushing stream in the meadow. Overnight in camp.
Day 05 : Kedarkharak to Kedartal (4-5 hrs) : It's going to be challenging today! The trek is very steep and through boulders and stones. However, this grueling climb is worth the effort as we are soon greeted by the pristine and crystal clear waters of the Kedar Tal. You can see the Thaleysagar peak from here with its reflection in the lake. We set our camps he.
DAY 06 : Kedartal to Bhojkharak via Kedarkharak (5-6 hrs) : Wake up early today if you do not want to miss the spectacular sunrise! After breakfast, we trace your steps back to Bhojkharak via Kedarkharak where we stop for lunch. Overnight in camp.
Day 07 : Bhojkharak To Gangotri (5-6 hrs) : Today, we start trekking down to Gangotri . After reaching, we'll help you check into a hotel/guest house. You can spend the evening at leisure or simply to assimilate the beauty of the lake that you had just witnessed a day back!
Day 08 : Gangotri to Dehradun (256km, 10-12 hrs) : Trip breaks after breakfast. Meal Plan: Breakfast
