LADAKH: Ashwin Kumar Ramasubbu, from Chennai who climbed the Mount Stok Kangri, the highest peak of Ladakh alone. He made his dream into a reality when finally executed his 13-day solo trip. Not only this, but he also chooses to take the Kargil route instead of directly reached to Leh. He took the risk of not taking a guide along in spite of various advices against the trip.
His nature and adventure freak attitude made him start the trip from Srinagar via Kargil, Drass and Leh. He said that the purpose of this trip was to prove the people who challenged his 'Big Plan' for future. Before the execution of the trip, for the last six months, he hiked peaks in Maharashtra where he lives presently. And later, he spent time in Leh doing physical activities as he required acclimatization.
He said that deserted scenario of Srinagar, the 9-11 hours of the continuous climb, facing the snowstorm for 3 hours, and the helpful nature of the Kashmiri boatman who gave him shelter in his boathouse. When asked about his picture holding a placard of 'I Support Jallikattu' he said that as he as always supported culture and traditions, he was affected by the Jallikattu's ban. So to make the common man aware of its importance and how much it means to people who raise bulls, he held the placard from all along the way to Khardhungla Pass from Leh. He said that many people enquired about it which also included the Army men. Also, many foreigners were interested to know about it as ‘Jallikattu’ is an unfamiliar word.
Later, he advised that taking a solo trip without experience is not suitable. He is proud to accomplish it and proved himself as most of the people called it 'Impossible'. He said that there is no sport other than mountaineering which brings one closer to nature, though one needs to take a lot of efforts to achieve it, but at the end, it’s all worth it.
