Everest, the first thing that would come in anyone’s mind is that it is the world’s tallest mountain and one of the dangerous peaks to climb! The risk factor of climbing this peak is very high and deaths are common while on an expedition to Everest.
On the other note, what do you think a life would be of an amputee, especially in India? You can’t expect much from someone who has lost his leg. But hey! How about this, An Indian Amputee athlete is preparing for his life’s biggest challenge, an expedition to scale Mount Everest!
Yes, this is an inspiring story of Ashoke Munne, an amputee mountaineer, who is all set to scale Mt Everest this summer.
Ashok Munne, a native of Nagpur, will take part in Mt Everest expedition which will start in April second week and expected to reach the summit in June first week.
It is not easy for a person who lost his leg to just wake up one morning and decide to climb worlds’ tallest mountain!
Ashok had already passed through many tough situations in life to come to this stage after losing a leg in a train accident eight years ago.
“I used to do farming when I lost my right leg. What hurt me most, more than losing a leg, was comments and attitude of friends and relatives who said I cannot do anything in life as I have lost a leg.” said Ashok.
It was at that juncture that Ashok decided to prove them wrong and achieve something really great. But his spirits were soon crushed when he got mocked and rejected by an administrator of the adventure sports club in Nagpur. Ashok did not give up, his determination had prevailed upon his emotion and led him further in his journey.
At last he could get support from Out Bound India, an adventure sports training club for being trained in mountaineering and also sponsorship from a artificial limbs making company, for which he is acting as brand ambassador now. Ashok already has several credits to his name like scaling 21,247 ft Mera Peak. Now, he is poised to enter the history books as the second amputee to scale Mt Everest soon.
We wish Ashok all the best for the expedition!
