Atmosphere of imbalance has been felt due to the delay in the resumption of the bus service from Kullu-Kaza and Keylong-Kaza.
The locals at the place are concerned because the bus service has yet not resumed on the route which remains open only for a few months. It is 185 km distance between Keylong (district headquarters of Lahaul) and Kaza. The gateway to the Spiti valley which provides shortest road links between the two valleys is The Kunzum Pass. Rashid Sheikh, the regional manager at HRTC stated that a team inspected the road between Keylong and Kaza in the second week of June and declared it unfit for bus operation. He further added that the inspection team would visit the area to check if the road was in a good condition and safe enough for plying vehicles.
The number of tourist feet has increased highly since 1992 when the tribal districts of Spiti and Kinnaur were opened for overseas visitors. The bus fare from Kullu-Manali-Kaza is Rs 350 and this works out to be economical for the people as compared to other modes of transport. Leading travel agent, Ramesh Lotey from Spiti Holidays Adventure, said if the bus services between Kullu-Manali and Keylong and Kaza resumed, it would help to flourish tourism in the Spiti valley.
