Manali: On 23rd April, a massive landslide near the Beas Nullah blocked the Manali-Rohtang Highway. Prior this, the snow was cleared on the highway by the Border Roads Organization (BRO). The landslide was huge enough to damage the entire road. The officials are firm about the fact that, once the landslide is cleared, vehicles will be able to cross the Rohtang Pass.
“The landslide is massive and it has damaged a large chunk of road. We have cleared snow from the Manali-Keylong highway, but the vehicles can ply only after the debris caused by the landslide are cleared” said Mayank Mehta, an Officiating commander of the Border Road Task Force, Lt. Col.
In a few days, vehicles in an emergency will be able to cross Rohtang but general traffic will be allowed only after ensuring the safety and enough space for parking at Rohtang. The BRO also cleared the winter replicas relojes snowfall which had blocked the highway in March. Mehta states that, the Jawans are working day and night to clear snow and join Lahaul valley with Manali. On the other side, one part of BRO is busy clearing snow from the Keylong-Sarchu highway.
