Night Trekking At The Forts Are Now Banned

Tag : Night Treks

People who love to see the sunrise from the top of the forts, now won’t be able to do it anymore. The recent Visapur Fort incident where a group of trekkers were beaten up, stripped by self-professed vigilantes (bhakts) on New Year's Eve, the authorities seems to find only one solution to it. The authorities have decided to stop the trekkers to enter the forts post sunset.

Treks at Fort

It will take some time for the ground rules to set as forts like Lohagad, and Visapur come under the jurisdiction of the archaeology department and others like Sinhagad and Raigad coming under the protection of State Archaeology Department.

Since the night trek season (Feb - April) is soon going to be at the doorstep, this decision will affect the trekkers plans. It is necessary to ensure this rule, as several forts in Maharashtra like Tikona and Torna do not have checkpost or security personnel. But many trekkers are unaware about the fact that they are not allowed in the fort after sunset.

Night Treks

Some groups are in the favour of the rule and others are confident that the authorities can’t control the trekkers. A city based trekker and a member of Explorer, Sunil Gujar stated," It is good that the ASI is restricting entry of visitors post sunset."
On contrary, PinakinKarve, the director of Trek'Di Adventures asks, "There are several forts across the states. Will the authorities actually be able to ensure that no one treks or enters these forts after sunset?"
