Since it is monsoon, the visitors at Kaas Plateau have increased. This has caused severe unwanted damage to the Plateau. Thus, the forest department has decided to allow only 3,000 visited per day. And their entry and exit will be checked through internal communication.

Anil Anjankar, deputy conservator of forests, Satara states, “Tourists  will only be allowed in batches of 750 in four slots, with each slot extending to three hours. The booking for this also will have to be done replica uhren online on our website. Their vehicles should be parked at the designated places.”

Millions of flowers bloom in Kaas Plateau in the months of August and September. Some are even rare. This attracts tourists heavenly for that span of time. Last year, the number even reached as high as 12,000-15,000. Overall, during these two months, the tourists who visited were around three lacs.

The experts believe that such huge number of people are the reason for the damage and create pressure on the rich habitant. People take their vehicles, including SUVs, on the carpet of flowers, and at times people are seen plucking these flowers to gift their loved ones. Taking vehicles on the plateau, at some places, has even led to seeds of invasive species to come atop the plateau when stuck to the tyres.

Prerna Agarwal, Inlaks Ravi Sankaran fellow and an independent researcher w studying the impact of tourism on Kaas vegetation said, "At present, a lot of unregulated tourism takes place there. Because of this, there are lots of informal tracks which have been formed (the ones not designated by the forest department for tourists to walk on). This causes habitat destruction and the constant trampling leads to soil compaction, hampering germination of plant seeds. The plateau can no longer take that scale of pressure. Hence, this regulating of tourism was imperative considering that it is not only a UNESCO World Heritage site but also ecologically fragile.”

The implementation of this rule will begin from August, 10 and fair of Rs.50 per head has allotted as earlier fair was Rs10.  This will control the population. Vishnu Kirdat, member of the joint forest management committee pointed to the manner in which excessive tourism was causing trampling of the flowers, traffic snarls and also generation of a lot of garbage. For the first few days, they may allow people who come from far-off places without online reservation, but after 10-15 days this will stop.
