Railway Authorities Keen On Expediting The Bilaspur-Manali-Leh Rail Link Project

The railways have sought land from Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) to set up camp office at Leh. The railways are of strategic importance as these are close to Tibet and would strengthen India’s position in the region.

A senior Northern Railway official said, “We have requested the LAHDC Chairman to allot land for setting up camp office at Leh to speed up the survey work of the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh rail line”, further adding that, “Apart from being of strategic importance, the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh railway line, is also expected to boost tourism potential of the area, right from Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh.”orologi replica

The cost of construction is estimated to be 22,830 crores. The proposed high-elevation Indian broad-gauge 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) railway track would link to the Indian railway network via an extension of the Kangra Valley Railway to Mandi, which would be converted to broad gauge.

General Manager of Northern Railways, AK Puthia has recently visited Leh along with a team of senior officers and discussed the issue of railway connectivity to Ladakh region with the district administration and local elected representatives.

The Chairman LAHDC has advised to submit a formal application. He further assured that the land would be allotted at top priority and hence it would not be a stumbling block.
