Sikkim To Tap On Kangchenjunga National Park As Eco-Tourism Destination

Standing at a height of 28,169 feet, Mt. kangchenjunga is a world heritage site and a sacred peak for Sikkimis people. It is believed to be the guardian deity of the state. The Sikkim government along with the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF) has planned to start tours inside the beautiful Khangchendzonga National Park. In a move to promote eco tourism, they will be conducting host of adventure activities like trekking, mountaineering, etc.

Pawan Chamling, Sikkim Chief Minister stated that his government aims to start 15 days’ trekking trails in the Khangchendzonga National Park, home to major mountain peaks, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and unique flora and fauna. In the months of summer, parikrama tour will be conducted in the periphery of the world heritage site keeping in view of the favorable climatic conditions in the area. Highest level of professional support replicas de relojes and logistics will be provided by the government of Chanling to nature lovers during the parikrama tour through the state tourism department and registered tour and travel agencies.

Whats interesting and best part is that the state government has launched a 15-minute helicopter service above the Himalayan beauty. The ride gives an opportunity for aerial views of Mount Khangchendzonga from Gangtok. The objective is to provide tourists with a magnificent view of the pristine peak, which illustrates different colours during different hours of the day. The helicopter service will mostly be operational during the peak tourist months of March to May and September to November. The service though could be availed thought the year on demand. To promote nature and eco-tourism in the state further, the government has recently opened 14 pristine peaks having height of below 7,000 m in North and West Sikkim.
