A record number of 53 runners (4 women) from all over the country participated in the sport. There were two categories in the race - 36 runners participated in the 30 km long race & the rest in 60 km distance.
The Chief Engineer of the Project Rohtang Tunnel Brig. DN Bhatt was invited as chief guest & he flagged-off the race at 6am. The race began at the altitude of 2,450 meters in Solang Valley. The total elevation gained in the 30km category was 2,650 meters however, the elevation was double in the 60km category.
With a wide variety of trails and terrain one could imagine - slushy, forest trails, pebbles, gravels, boulders, stream crossings, river bridges and a little part of road, the race offered a challenge of a whole new level. It was not only running, some sections were so steep that runners had to cover it by trekking.
The best thing in the race was happy, enthusiastic & energetic runners even after the muscle aching race. The race was quite challenging. Even the experienced ones struggled. One of the finisher of 60kms category, Nakul Butta, said, “It was a tough but incredible race. I hope this race will boost the whole new kind of trail runners that India lack. It is very different than road running and the trails and surroundings were very picturesque.” Even though tiring, the beauty of Himalayan ranges mesmerised the runners & was an add on motivation to finish the race.
The Director of Race, Vishwas Sindhu, bagged second prize. He excitedly said after finishing the race, “It is very motivating for me to see the enthusiasm of the runners and their will-power to push themselves to reach the finish line. It has flipped the idea more to organize the trail running races on a bigger scale from year onwards so that our city runners gets another kind of running experience. There are trail running and skyrunning races around the world and hopefully soon enough, we’ll see an Indian representing the country.”
