Tarakeshwari and Dinesh Rathod the couple, both aged 30 years, became the first couple to scale the Mount Everest -- the tallest peak in the world – together on May 23. The couple, who tied the knot in 2008, are both in the Maharashtra Police force, who dreamt together of ascending the Mount Everest, the tallest peak in the world. They were quoted by the agency as saying that they became the first Indian couple and first security personnel couple to reach the top of Mt Everest and that no one else had done this feat earlier.
They decided to delay parenthood until they achieved their goal, our dreams have come true, and the couple told reporters. “We made a commitment that we will not give birth to a child until we climb Mt. Everest,” said Mr. Rathod. “With pride now, we want to become parents” they say. They had earlier planned to climb the mountain last year, but had to postpone plans after the earthquake in Nepal.
They were sad after hearing that three Indian nationals who lost their lives in the climb, but once they reached at the top themselves, they were overjoyed. Three Indian nationals from West Bengal were killed during their attempt to ascend the Mount Everest this season too. The Rathods had climbed other peaks including the highest peak in Australia. They had also organized various sky diving and other mountain related expeditions before joining the police service in 2006.
Two Nepali Sherpas, Furba and Fushemba, accompanied the couple in their climb. The trip was organized by Makalu Adventure. Mohan Lamsal of Makalu Adventure, the company that fausse montre organized the trip, was quoted by the agency as saying that such kind of attempts will help build a trust between India and Nepal also. More than 70 Indians have scaled Mount Everest successfully this season. Let us all wish the Rathod family, a great year and life ahead.
