Tiger spotting is one of the famous activities in Maharashtra Tiger reserves like Pench, Tadoba, Nagzira, etc.
On arrival of summer, tiger spotting season has officially arrived and one can expect huge crowds at these famous Tiger reserves of Maharashtra. But not known to many, there is a wildlife sanctuary just 160kms away from Nagpur which has very good Tiger spotting potential. Wildlife photographers - who are regular to the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Yavatmal - swear by the fact that this lesser known forest could certainly be one of the best places to spot tigers away from the crowds this summer.

Wildlife experts and forest officials are trying hard to demand for an upgrading of this wildlife sanctuary to a Tiger reserve for better funding and conservation.
"The forest is beautiful and it also holds good potential for tiger sightings. However, not a lot of tourists are aware of this place. Hence, we have been in our own ways trying to promote this place. In fact, if more tourists start visiting Tipeshwar it will help the forest department generate good revenue and more facilities will be developed," shared Lodhi, a Nagpur-based businessman and a wildlife photographer who regularly visits Tipeshwar.

Visitors can drive their own vehicle along with local guides inside the sanctuary. There are also local run taxi's to visit the forest.
There are not many resorts, but decent enough places to stay, some 10kms away.
Although there has been tiger killing by poachers before, the number of tigers in the forest has grown impressively.
According to estimates, the sanctuary has around 10 tigers including sub-adults and the neighboring territorial forest area has around four tigers. Apart from tigers, the sanctuary is also home to leopards, hyenas, wild boar, monkey and blue bulls along with several birds and reptile species.
