11th June - Valley of Flowers is no stranger to nature and mountain lovers. Every year, thousands of trekkers visit this place to experience its famous carpet of bloomed flowers. Despite of frequent landslides previously and frequent floods this year, it has not affected much as it still holds its natural beauty.
This year trekkers and flower enthusiastic cherish as this picturesque valley has been thrown open to public from Wednesday. VOF which stays inaccessible most of the year is opened during a small window period of a few months in the monsoon. This year it is open till October end.
Chandrashekhar Joshi, DFO of the Valley of Flowers (VOF) National Park said, "We saw a good response on day one and around 100 visitors came to be mesmerised by the beauty of the valley. The tourists can visit the flower valley till October 31 this year."
He further added, "Currently the weather is good and the roads are in decent shape besides which flowers like Marigold, White roses and Trisula are in bloom. As about the famous Brahamkamal flower which blooms at a height of 6700 metre, professional trekkers can try to catch glimpses of it. The monsoon will only increase the blooming flowers and more tourists are expected in days to come"
Online booking or advance booking has not yet been started for the Valley of Flowers from its base village, Ghangariya. Ghangariya village is 5 kms away from the valley and one needs to buy tickets from this village. For Indian visitors the entry charge is Rs 150 and for foreign visitors the entry charge is Rs 650.
Since VOF has been too much commercialized, new trekking routes have been opened around it.
