2,127 kilograms of waste was gathered by around 700 trekkers in the months of May and June, during their trek. The gathered waste was then taken back to the base camp and later transported to an NGO, the Waste Warriors, which they would reuse and safe dumping in Dehradun.
When a trekkers group, India hikes, saw piles of waste in the mountains in 2013, this activity of gathering the waste began. The association’s originators Arjun Majumdar and Sandhya UC started ‘Green Trails’ to begin the cleaning of Roopkund - a standout amongst the most excellent trails in the Himalayas.
