India, where the population of striped cats is slowly dying one by one, now has a reason to smile. With the meager number of the tigers in the nation, even one addition to the population has made the forest authorities glee.
A spot of a tiger cub at the Sariska Tiger Reserve, at Rajasthan, is the reason of many smiles. Thanks to the tigress ST 9, with whom the tiger cub is spotted. The tigress ST 9 is said to be matted to Tiger ST 6. Tigress ST 9 earlier moved in Bandipul, Indauk, Duharmala, Rekamala, Sarunda, Nangalhedi, Berawas and Talvrikshya forest areas. She has mated with Tiger ST 6.
Sariska now has 14 striped cats. Seven of them were brought from Ranthambore while an equal number born here. Tigress ST 2 littered two cubs, both females, in 2012. Both of them are now adults. In 2014, ST 2 gave birth to a male and a female cub. The same year, another tigress ST 10 littered two cubs - a male and a female.
Since the technology of CCTV Cameras which are installed, informed the forest authorities about the tiger cub, more of the cameras are installed in hope for more tiger cubs. But till then, the tiger population which has now risen now to 14 of them in the Sariska Tiger Reserve is a moment of happiness.
