Sarasgad Fort is one of the most interesting trekking destinations located in the state of Maharashtra. The fascinating history of the fort plus the religious significance of the region attract countless devotees and adventure seekers here every year. It was also used as a watch tower for monitoring surrounding areas.
The fort was a part of the Hindavi Swarajya established by Shivaji Maharaj nd was never annexed into the British Empire. The fort features an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva at the top, from where the participants can enjoy a mesmerizing view of the surroundings below. Another important feature of the area is the various caves built into the hill which are supposed to have been used by the soldiers.
The trekking trail taking the participants to the top of Sarasgad Fort is not that difficult. The trail is surrounded by great natural beauty that makes the participants enjoy the trekking trip even more. Although, there are steps carved into the hill that can take the visitors directly to the top, following the trekking trail is surely a better option.
