Pindari Glacier

Pindari Glacier

The Pindari Glacier is a glacier found in the upper reaches of the kumaon himalayas, to the southeast of Nanda Devi, Nanda kot. The glacier flows to the south for a short distance of about 3 km (1.9 mi) and gives rise to the pindari river which meets the alaknanda at karnaprayag in the Garhwal district.

The trail to reach the glacier crosses the villages of saung, loharkhet, crosses over the dhakuri pass, continues onto khati village (the last inhabited village on the trail),dwali , phurkia and finally zero point, pindar the end of the trail. Though most of the trail is along the banks of the Pindari River, the river is mostly hidden until after Khati.

Pindari Glacier Trek is a 4 to 6 Days trek in Kumaun region of Uttarakhand , Pindari Glacier is located in Himalayas in Kumaun region at southeast of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot. Pindari Glacier flows to south to south side for about 3 kms & Pindari River takes birth , Later Pindari river merges in to Alaknanda river at Karna Prayag.

Trek to Pindari Galcier starts from Bageshwar where trekkers reach and get assembled , Trekkers depart by road to Saung Trekking tour is completed via Saung, Loharkhet , Dhakuri Pass and Pindari Glacier Trek corsses Khati Village which is last inhabitate village in that region , Trek goes through Dwali , Phurkia and finally reaches Zero point at Pindar which is end point of trail, Most part of Pindari Glacier trek runs near Pindari river , Most part of Pindari river is hidden and and visible after Khati.

Moral about this trek is- the best known trekking route in Kumaun, earlier located in Almora district and now in newly created Bageshwer district, the trail follows the Pindar river to it's source on the glacier are Nandakot (6,860 m), Chhanguch (6,322 m) and Nandaghunti (6,310 m).

Best season to join Pindara trek- April to June, September to October.
