Manali at an altitude of 2,050 m (6,726 ft.) in the Beas River Valley is a hill station nestled in the mountains of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh near the northern end of the Kullu Valley. It is located about 270 km (168 m) north of the state capital, Shimla. Manali lies in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh state of India. It has become a tourist spot in recent years.
 
Manali is administratively a part of the Kullu district. The small town is the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh and from there over the Karakoram Pass on to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin.

The high rising wooded hilly areas of Manali turn into extensive snowfields in winter. The white clocked winter landscape coupled with proper infrastructural facilities offer great scope for Manali skiing. There are many tournaments organized as well as workshops held here for teaching amateurs the basics of skiing.
 
With sloping mountains, clear blue rivers and green meadows, the picturesque beauty of Manali is breath taking. Enjoy the snowfall, skiing and ice skating here during this month and the next, with temperature going as low as -7°C. Manali is truly splendid during this time with its snow-capped peaks and surreal beauty and calls for a fun-filled and a relaxed vacation amidst the snowy mountains.
 
An annual skiing championship is held here. At a distance of 13 km from Manali is the Solang valley that too provides excellent opportunities for skiing. Holding an annual skiing tournament, other attractions include the view of the glaciers, valleys between Manali and Kothi. You should come during the month of January to March in the Gulaba slopes to enjoy a perfect skiing vacation.
 
Manali is also a hot spot for Heli Skiing.
