Absorbing Bicycling Expedition at Sharavathi Western Ghats

 

The Sharavathi Valley is home to the evergreen forests that are surrounded by scrub savannah, marshy areas and grasslands. Some of the evergreen species like Syzygium, Cinnamon, Aglaia, Diospyros, Dipterocarpus make it an ecologically sensitive region. The Sharavathi River Valley that lies between the central Western Ghats of the Shimoga district is a paradise on Earth. The Bicycling Expedition at Sharavathi Western Ghats is a great experience for all the bike riders.

 

Below are a few of the highlights of the expedition that make it great.

 

  • The 60 km length of the Sharavathi backwater that is 15 km wide consists of thick vegetation that is home to diverse wild life. You will be able to view a few of the rare birds.
  • The 14th century stone Bheemeshwara Temple is the point where the expedition starts. Exploring the nature along with the beauty of the temple will make the entire experience a memorable one.
  • The breathtaking views of the Valley will give enough opportunities to all the photographers to capture some of the amazing natural scenic beauty.
  • There are quite a few water activities like Kayaking, canoeing, Coracle ride which you can indulge in the river valley.

 

Safety Measures

  • It is advised to carry a small hand torch just for the safety of the riders.
  • Sunscreen lotion and cap.
  • A bottle of ointment that will enable the rider to get rid of leeches.
  • Carry a backpack that consists of all your personal belongings.

Bicycling expeditions have always been regarded as one of the most exciting and adventurous times for the bike riders. The Sharavathi Western Ghats provides ample opportunity to all the bike riders to have a great experience during the expedition. All the facilities and arrangements are done from their end to ensure that the whole experience is an unforgettable one for the rider. 

 

Sharavathi Backwater :- Sharavathi backwater is about 60 KM in length and about 15 KM wide. It became backwater when dam was constructed at Linganamakki of sagara taluk in Shivamogga(Shimoga) district to the river Sharavathi. This backwater has created lots of islands, it is so great to explore all these, where thick vegetation still exist and lots of wild life in it including some rare birds.


Accomdation :- Doom tents or Rooms with attached bathroom away from backwater . 


Food :- Food is going to be Simple food and it will be freshly cooked food at the camp site.

 

Travel to Sagara – Option are Hire a tempo traveller, own vehicle, board Talguppa Express train at 11:00 Pm everyday


Reach Hometstay at western ghats range of Sagara 


Welcomed with Tea and snacks 


Day 1

 

  • 9:00 AM - Breakfast will be served 
  • 10:00 AM – Cycle ride(Mountain bikes with gears) to Jog falls covering sceneic beauty of western ghats and sharavathi valley where you will be followed by backwater and lush green forest 
  • 12:00 AM – Reach Jog falls spend time in Jog falls 
  • 1:30 PM - Lunch will be served 3:00 PM – Cycle back to campsite 
  • 5:00 PM - Tea at Camping site 
  • 7:00 PM - Campfire will be ready 
  • 9:30 PM - Dinner (Dinner will close by 10:30 PM) 
  • 11:00 PM - Bed time( Room stay in Homestay)


Day 2

 

  • 9:00 AM – Breakfast at Campsite 
  • 10:00 AM – Travel to Bheemeshwara trek starting point 
  • 11:00 AM – Start the trek towards 14th century stone Bheemeshwara Temple and falls( Duration 1 hour) 
  • 12:00 PM – Reach temple and explore the nature along with temple 
  • 1: 00 PM – Lunch will be served 
  • 3: 00 PM – Travel back to campsite 
  • 5:00 PM - Tea at Camping site 
  • 7:00 PM - Campfire will be ready 
  • 9:30 PM - Dinner (Dinner will close by 10:30 PM) 
  • 11:00 PM - Bed time( Doom tent near to homestay encountering the silence and voice of nature)

 

Day 3

 

  • 5:30 AM - Wake up call 
  • 6:00 AM - Ascent trek to peak to the view point of Sharavathi Valley (Photographers will spent lots of time here, others will be lazy enough to relax on the green beds) 
  • 9:00 AM - Descent back to campsite followed by breakfast & Relax 
  • 11:00 AM – Travel to Wateractivities Area Start water activities Kayaking, Coracle ride, canoeing( its is mandatory for everybody to wear life jacket even if you know swimming) 
  • 1:30 PM – Lunch will be served 
  • 2: 00 PM – Wind Up and leave to Bangalore

 

Nature Etiquette (Every campers must fallow) :- Our programs are basic and minimalist; do not expect city-like comfort, adjust with what ever is being provided. Any additional requests need to be made prior to the start of the program 


We follow the 'leave no trace' & 'zero impact camping' practice; do not litter on the trail, please carry back all the material garbage you generate on the program 


The forests have their own orchestra of sounds; use of music systems is up to you; we would like you listen to birds, animals, leaves and the wind The locals, animals, birds have the right of 'way' and 'say' in our programs. We wish to respect their dignity to the fullest extent possible. 


Things to bring for the camping:-

 

 

  • A proper BackPack.
  • A plate with a spoon (Must) (please dont bring disposible paper plate etc)
  • One 1 ltr Water Bottle for drinking water and one cup for tea etc. (Must) (please don’t bring Mineral water bottle or disposible glasses )
  • Please bring One lite bed sheet. Foam sleeping Mat will be arranged by us.
  • A small hand torch or head torch. (Must)
  • Toilet kit
  • A bottle of Amrutanjan or Iodex or any balm to get rid of leeches
  • Sun cap and Sun lotion.
