Overview
The summit of Kedarkantha (3810m) trek lies in the Govind wildlife sanctuary and National park. The park is situated in the Uttarkashi district of the hill state of Uttarakhand A classic around the year trek Kedarkantha offers thick snow cover in the winters and lush green meadows in summer months. The road head of Sankri (where trek starts is a beautiful drive through the hill towns of Mussoorie, Purola, Mori and Natwar most of them which lie on the banks of Tons river. The total trek distance is of 20kms which involves beautiful and lush forests and vast meadows. The trek offers everything from lakes (frozen in winters) to lush flora and fauna, snowcapped peaks and much more. The trek is beautifully done all year around apart from monsoons.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1 : Dehradun- Sankri - Road 210 Km
Day 2 : Sankri- Juda ka Talab - Trek 4 kms
Day 3 : Juda Ka Talab- Kedarkantha Base - Trek 4 kms
Day 4 : Kedarkantha Base- Kedarkantha Summit- Hargaon Campsite - Trek 9kms
Day 5 : Hargaon - Sankri - Trek 5 Kms
Day 6 : Sankri- Dehradun - Road 210 Km
Detailed Itinerary
Day 01 : Dehradun—Sankri (210km, 10hrs.) : We board cabs from Dehradun early in the morning and move towards Sankri a beautiful hill village the roadhead for this trek, the journey takes around 10 hrs. and goes via the towns of Purola, Mori, Natwar, Overnight stay in Home Stay. Meal plan: Welcome drink and dinner
Day 02 : Sankri –Juda Ka Talab ( 4kms) : The trek starts from Sankri itself after breakfast, we encounter a lush pine forest and lot of Villager hits on the way to the campsite of Juda ka Talab. The trail is quite wide and on one side you can also view distant villages on hill slopes. We cross a stream on the way to reach the beautiful lake which would be our camp. Meal Plan: All Meals
Day 03 : Juda Ka Talab – Kedarkantha Base Camp (4 kms) : The distance today involves a walking time of around 2-3 hours to the base of the Kedarkantha Mountain. The basecamp is at an altitude of around 11250 feet and in itself is a sight to behold. We camp at this beautiful place for the night.
Day 04 : Kedarkantha Base to Summit and back to Hargaon camp (10 km, 6-7hrs) : The day for which everyone prepares for, we start very early in the morning depending on the weather and snow conditions. The trail today crosses the tree line and reaches the summit ridge in about 3 hours, we are able to view the summit during the most of the walk. The top has a small temple dedicated to lord Shiva and offers 360 degreed of splendid view, After the summit we descend to the campsite Hargaon which is at an altitude of 9800 feet
Day 05 : Hargaon to Sankri(Trek 5 kms) : Today the trek is all downhill as we reach the village of Sankri pot lunch, the evening is free to exchange photographs and talk about the experience of the trek
DAY 06 : Sankri to Dehradun (Drive 210 kms) : The trip ends after breakfast. Meal Plan: Breakfast
