Phansad Sanctuary
Phansad sanctuary wildlife is a unique type of reserve in Maharashtra. It is located on the way to Murud from Roha between Kashid village sea coast and Kundalika River. This forest used to be the hunting forest for rulers from Murud. After independence of India, forest department took over the responsibility of this jungle. The closeness of sea and still a hilly area with heavy rainfall makes it a special jungle. This jungle act as an oasis for wildlife.
Though this jungle has descent population of wild boars, leopard, barking deer, sambar etc. its difficult to locate them because of the hilly terrain. In our nature trail we have very few chances to encounter mammalian fauna. But this Sanctuary has excellent birding potential. Hunting birds like Shikra, Crested serpent eagle, changeable hawk eagle, kestrel etc are very frequent in this jungle. It is also a good place to spot our state bird "Yellow footed green pigeon which is popularly known as "Hariyal" It is also a good destination for spotting butterflies and other interesting insects.
In short, this jungle trail will teach you to look beyond the big size animals and explore depths of jungle.
