Over 350 species of birds, 379 floral species, 50 species of fish, 13 species of snakes, 5 species of lizards, 7 amphibian species, 7 turtle species and host of other invertebrates, one of the world's best bird areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site - thats the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary.
November brings in a lot of migratory birds into India and this is when ROOTS takes you to a Bird Sanctuary that was created around 250 years ago by the then ruler of the princely state of Bharatpur. Once a hunting ground for the maharajas of Bharatpur, we will go armed with our cameras and binoculars (latter also available on rent at the sanctuary) to hunt for these guys and bring back photographic memories of India's rich avian diversity.
The National park can be explored on cycle or on cycle rickshaws with the rickshaw pullers often doubling up as guides.
