HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TOUR
As appealing is the landscape here to one and all, birders, naturalists and photographers are bound to dizzy themselves with its avian diversity. Over 300 bird species have been recorded in this region, including rarities like Golden Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Spotted Creeper, Red Phalarope, Yellow-eyed Pigeon and Stoliczka’s bushchat. The birding is so fast-paced here that it will keep you occupied with feasting your eyes on a myriad of activities around. The constant chack-chack of warblers and different species of Eagles, Falcons, Vultures, Buzzards and Harriers hovering, flying, scanning, swooping, feeding and roosting seems to be just the tip of the iceberg for what the birding experience here at Tal Chhapar comprises of.
A land that celebrates a conservation success story of restoring the population of Blackbucks from being on the verge of extinction to almost 2500, doesn’t restrict its hospitality to the bucks alone. This rich ecosystem is home to mammals like Desert Cat,Chinkara, Desert Gird, Indian Hedgehog, Indian and Desert Fox. We may also get a chance to sight reptiles mainly Spiny-tailed Lizard and Desert Monitor. As for our winged wonders, the list is long with the target species ranging from Raptors in the Falcons being the Laggar and Lesser Kestrel, Eagles like Steppe, Tawny and Imperial, the majestic Vultures which are Himalayan Griffon, Cinereous,White-rumped and Indian along with Pallid, Montagu’s and Eurasian Marsh Harrier. To this amazing symphony of birds, groups of Short-toed, Desert and Bimaculated Larks pull up the smaller strings along with Stoliczka’s puff and roll routine, completing the entire set. During this tour we will explore different avenues for wildlife to understand the habitat and maximize our chances of better sightings and photography opportunities. Since this is the time for the arrival of many migratory birds, we may see them coming in large numbers too.
ITINERARY
Day 1 :
We will gather directly at Sujangarh by 11:30 am. Over a cup of tea, we’ll have a brief orientation about Tal Chhapar, its habitat, the different species of birds and other wildlife found here plus how our days ahead would be like. Post lunch, we will proceed for our first drive and explore the grassland ecosystem for birds, Blackbucks and Foxes. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 :
Early morning wake up and gear up for another day of exploring the grassland habitat.During this photo-tour, we will be going for drives within the park and to a few other birding spots as well.
From tight shots of birds to flight and scape shots, we will have ample chances to experiment and capture not only some amazing wildlife moments but also the beautiful landscape. The grasslands and the golden light together make up a delightful blend for every photographer. Since the light will be too harsh in the noon hours, we will relax for a few hours after lunch and head out for our evening session. Once we’re back at the base, every evening we will have a photo-review session which will involve discussions on the learning and challenges faced during the day while photographing. This session is also a great way to learn from one another, as the outcome of the sessions will also be shared
Day 3 :
On the last day after our morning session, we will conclude the workshop by 11:30 am.
