Velas is a small hamlet in Ratnagiri district which is nearer to very famous Bankot Fort. Earlier Velas was known as a birth place of Nana Phadnis. It has a long and pristine sea face too but since last few years velas came up in a limelight because of Turtle Festival held by local villagers and an NGO called Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra. This is the reason why people come to velas as they are interested to witness the beginning of life journey of small Olive Ridley baby turtles. Besides this, Velas is also famous for its simple home stays and delicious konkani food.
During this ride we are also visiting some nearby places like Bankot Fort, Harihareshwar Temple and beach. Come and experience a soothing weekend in Konkan with us.
Note: Sighting of Olive Ridley Turtle is a matter of luck as its natural phenomenon and we cannot go beyond nature. We are not committed to show these turtles but we will surely visit the site and take the chance. rest is all luck !
